Minneapolis: Um chamado a Democracia e ao Respeito!

 A sombra que Minneapolis expõe é assustadora para a sociedade dos EUA. O assassinato de um cidadã americana pela Policia de Imigração, mediante uma abordagem violenta, sem qualquer pudor, precisa ser enfrentado com coragem e indignação. Aliás, não é a primeira vez que esta cidade se coloca no centro da discussão sobre o Estado Policial. Em 2020, a violência policial vitimou George Floyd. Ontem, Renne Nicole foi assassinada a sangue frio. 

Isso nos provoca a refletir sobre o que significa viver em um Estado movido por ódio racista e xenofóbico. Um Estado que perdeu a capacidade de lidar com as diferenças políticas e que só se afirma pelas políticas ostensivas de silenciamento. O fascismo, ressurreto neste século XXI, recauchutado por lideres políticos que entendem que eficiência política se baseia no binômio expropriação dos mais fracos e eliminação de inimigos internos. 

A erosão do sistema de accountability e transparência realimentam a destruição dos pilares sagrados e inabaláveis da democracia. Não basta apenas se ter regularidade de eleições para se garantir estabilidade política. Um regime democrático, acima de tudo, se viabiliza quando o contrato social permanece vivo, alimentado pelo saudável respeito à diversidade. 

Quero me solidarizar com os meus amigos e amigas estadunidenses, diante de sua dor e desejando que os EUA recuperem a sua democracia que está em risco. Vejo os sucessivos lutos de vocês como os nossos próprios lutos. Que a memória de Renne Nicole Good, assim como a memória  de George Floyd não seja esquecida. Que a xenofobia e o racismo sejam varridos deste país e que a sociedade chame para si a responsabilidade de varrer de seu governo os maus servidores. Que se busque verdade e justiça!

The shadow that Minneapolis exposes is frightening for U.S. society. The killing of an American citizen by Immigration Police, through a violent approach, without any shame, must be confronted with courage and outrage. In fact, it is not the first time that this city has been at the center of the discussion about the Police State. In 2020, police violence claimed the life of George Floyd. Yesterday, Renne Nicole was murdered cowardly.

This prompts us to reflect on what it means to live in a state driven by racist and xenophobic hatred. A state that has lost the ability to deal with political differences and only asserts itself through overt silencing policies. Fascism, resurrected in this 21st century, repackaged by political leaders who understand that political efficiency is based on the combination of expropriating the weaker and eliminating internal enemies.

The erosion of the accountability and transparency system fuels the destruction of the sacred and unshakeable pillars of democracy.

It is not enough to simply have regular elections to ensure political stability. A democratic regime, above all, is viable when the social contract remains alive, nourished by a healthy respect for diversity. I want to express my solidarity with my American friends, in the face of their pain and hoping that the United States recovers its democracy, which is at risk. I see your successive moments of mourning as our own. May the memory of Renne Nicole Good, as well as the memory of George Floyd, not be forgotten. May xenophobia and racism be swept from this country, and may society take responsibility for removing bad officials from its government. Truth and justice must be sought!
